Sophia Michelle Chitemere, Miss February in the ongoing Face of Zimbabwe competition opens up to Zim Life & Style Magazine to talk about her life, the competition and why she should win Face of Zimbabwe Full Name: Sophia Michelle Chitemere Date of Birth: 7 march 1989 Hometown: Harare Firstly who is Sophia
Young, vibrant, ambitious, spontaneous, sophisticated and unique. I am from the heart of Zimbabwe. I’m fun, outgoing, love meeting new people, learning new things and cultures. I’m a go-getter and once I get any opportunity that comes my way, I hold onto it with both hands. No matter what, I’m not a failure but just a way of growing in belief and facing the issue be it good or bad. I’m on the road to success, just a little traffic! What was it like becoming FOZ finalists?
It was a wonderful and powerful feeling that I achieved something that I really wanted to be part of. I got so much support from my family, friends and fans. It’s great that some people actually appreciate you and recognise your beauty. Another wonderful thing is that when I received an email about being Miss Feb, I was in Zimbabwe, I just started glowing and everywhere I went people would just look at me thinking, "What up with this chic!" What would you do if you were to win FOZ crown?
I will obviously jump and start screaming! Where my heart belongs the most or projects I would like to be part of can be anything that has to do with children and women. I would want to do fundraising and or approaching potential sponsors that can give some me assistance with funds to help the orphans, disabled, abandoned, deaf particularly children that are not even recognised in the community such as from children’s homes in the rural areas. I would like to work with women and have meetings or counsellors that they can meet to help them face their problems, issues or things that they want to do but they are not able to do it. There is so many women that live their lives full of anger, confusion, stress and grudges. These women are our mothers so by giving them the assistance they need would be a start or open door moment for greater things for their family and children. The last two things I would like to be part of is try help raise funding for hospitals especially in the rural areas and schools too without enough equipment, medicine and dedicated doctors. So many people die everyday because of this especially women. If 8 women die everyday, imagine how many wonderful women are lost every week, month or in a year and how many children are left behind orphaned. The statistics are too high! Lastly, education! u can never do anything or be somebody without education. Many families can’t afford to take their children to school which affects the future. Everywhere we go we just need it and i wish to help those children who are not able to go to school or have financial problems that they are not able to go to school You are quite passionate about your modelling career and have taken part in a number of them. tell us about your past competition? Besides being part of FOZ, I have taken part in a pageant called Miss Zim SA.I think that’s were my modelling career just started. it was all just for fun or a joke in my own point of view but I noticed that I have learnt so much and met a lot of people from that pageant that I never notice or strengths I never discovered within. Every journey starts with one step and that’s the step I took and open doors for me in so many things. I have also been in an online pageant called Miss Tropics where I battled it out with so many beautiful girls from all over Africa. I made it to the top 5. The judges’ comments were open and honest and I took every comment or weakness they noticed so it can change and improve. The most recent competition I had was organised by my agency (Just You Model and Management) where models, actors, dancers and singers were being scouted to travel to USA next year. so many talented artist were battling out and I have never seen such talented and dedicated people like that before. That’s when i just felt like im on top of the world and can make it everywhere and be what I want to be. Having that positive thinking, attitude and confidence, you can never go wrong in whatever competition. I kept sing in my head that " IM A STAR TONIGHT...UP IN THE SKY TONIGHT..SO GIVE ME ONE MORE DREAM CAUSE IM SHINING SHINING SHINING!" that’s the kind of words a passionate person should always say or sing to themselves. The event and night was a success. I was happy my agent was happy with the achievements so there is more to come from that. So watch this space. Your flat is burning down, what would you grab?
My handbag! It always has perfume, lip gloss, novel, bible, water, brush, notebook and a pen What music do you currently have on repeat?
Hillsong-God He reigns album, Beyonce 4 album, Adele-19 and 21 album, Zahara, Drake-take care album, Zakes Bantwini, Oliver Mtukudzi, Deitrick Haddon, Proffesor, Maxwell and Chrisette Michele-im a star Relationships, whats your ideal man?
Wow! l have to write a whole list for that one. But everyone have something in common when they look for a partner e.g. sweet, loving, honest, kind, caring, etc. but the most important thing about looking or finding an ideal man is that he must always have your best interest at heart first, God fearing and have something in common but if you don’t have anything in common then both of you have to be willing to adjust to each other’s cultures and background. What inspires you?
So many things and people inspire me everyday. I am inspired by millionaire or billionaire that are sometimes as young as 21 but they are entitled to so much money, projects and properties and still going on strong. I am inspired by positive people who I may meet or talk to that when they tell their story of how they started. I am also inspired by spiritual books and the bible. Many times I feel so low and get to a point that I can’t do it anymore and just want to give up but that will lift me up and get ready to face the world. Lastly, I’m inspired my music. I love to listen to music no matter what kind of music if it has a message behind it that maybe positive to my life, I take it in. You don’t have to be a gospel singer to inspire people but a pop artist can sing a song that connects to your life or situation that makes want to stand up and do something and not sit around and wait for the storm to end. So you think you are an example of beauty with brains?
Yes I do believe I am an example of beauty and brains. I don’t have a degree, masters or honour degree but my thinking capacity and the way I look at things have come to a point where I can take on anything. Im am not a failure and never give up on any task that I am given. I am a well educated person and have so many lesson learnt situations or moments that I can give out to the world or to Zimbabwe that will leave them thinking that this girl is so educated. I am the kind of person who is eager to learn, open to anything, who researches on so many things. So im an all rounder and don’t believe im a dumb model. Tell us about your future, if you had a crystal ball what would you like to see?
Successful and happy! I would like to be a successful model worldwide especially in USA and Europe. Be part of the biggest agencies in USA like trump model management, NY model management, Elite model management, Rage management, etc. all over magazines, billboards, fashion shows, etc. I love children and also believe in women empowerment so I see myself part of that as well. I also want to grow in the multimedia/graphic designing industry. I like to keep myself busy so when the modelling comes to an end I still want to be part of something and empower myself in my career. A successful model can’t be alone forever so I’d like to have a family of my own as well. Your vision can go as far as you can dream so DREAM BIG! How do you handle groupies?
I handle them very well. Although some think that im ignoring them when im busy. But I do try get time to talk to them, know about them and what they do. Most of them are great people and turn out to be great friends. So it just takes time to get to know them. As for stalkers, guys with no respect and ruse I waste no time on the "BLOCK THIS PERSON" button. Whats the nicest thing that a fan has ever said to you?
Most of them say nice things to me they all wonderful and a blessing. But what touched my heart were two girls. One is a model in Zimbabwe, very beautiful girl and she said "Soph I believe u’re my mentor and ask you for any advice and strongly believe we'll both be successful models one day." The other girl is 22 and has a 2yr old and in her heart she tells herself that since I got a baby, life is over for her. She sent me a long email but in short she said, "When i read your status and get an email from you I start believing in myself and know there's hope for me. I can turn to you all the time and you're there. Wish i could have a heart and beauty like yours I pray God will continue to empower you so you can raise up many women like me and models who want to be like you or want to make it in life. It’s like you're my guardian angel." A lot of my friends say that to me but when a stranger is able to see it and recognise your personality that quickly, it just feels great!! |
