| FOZ Statement on Gamu Maziva | 2012-10-29 | Press Statement IT IS WITH SADNESS that we leant of some serious allegations that have been levelled against one of the Face of Zimbabwe winners, Gamu Maziva the current title holder of Miss February in the 2012 competition. These allegations, which are the subject of a pending court case, have been widely reported in the local media. Since the matter is sub-judice and under investigation by Zimbabwean authorities, we are unable to comment on the specifics. However, to protect the integrity and reputation of the competition and the high standards we have set for all our competitors, Gamu has offered to resign her title as Miss February Face of Zimbabwe pending the conclusion of her case. Her resignation has been accepted by the Board of Trustees. Pending a decision by the FOZ judging panel, arrangements are currently being made to fill the Miss February spot with one of the wildcards. A further statement in this regard will be issued once the selection process has been completed. Without undermining the severity of the allegations, FOZ Board of Trustees believes that everyone (including Gamu) is innocent until proven guilty. In this regard, we offer our support to her and look forward to the conclusion of this matter. In the event that that matter is concluded in her favour before the finals scheduled for the 15th of December, Gamu will be offered a ticket back into the competition as a wildcard. The Trustees wish to thank Gamu for a sterling job she has done raising funds for My Brother’s Keeper (The charity arm of Face of Zimbabwe) and the Epworth orphanage programme. She has also worked on various other charitable causes such as the Mutemwa Leprosy centre in Mutoko. In all cases she has been making a significant contribution to the welfare of the underprivileged and securing sponsorship for a number of children. Face of Zimbabwe is a public competition and the winners become public figures from whom much is expected as the country’s ambassadors. As such, the contestants are accountable to the people and Gamu’s voluntary withdrawal reflects this position. Since Gamu is contesting these charges, she has a legal right to be heard and we urge all of her supporters to reserve judgement till the matter is concluded and provide her with the privacy she needs. | Face to Face with Sophia Chitemere | 2011-11-29 | Sophia Michelle Chitemere, Miss February in the ongoing Face of Zimbabwe competition opens up to Zim Life & Style Magazine to talk about her life, the competition and why she should win Face of Zimbabwe Full Name: Sophia Michelle Chitemere Date of Birth: 7 march 1989 Hometown: Harare Firstly who is Sophia
Young, vibrant, ambitious, spontaneous, sophisticated and unique. I am from the heart of Zimbabwe. I’m fun, outgoing, love meeting new people, learning new things and cultures. I’m a go-getter and once I get any opportunity that comes my way, I hold onto it with both hands. No matter what, I’m not a failure but just a way of growing in belief and facing the issue be it good or bad. I’m on the road to success, just a little traffic! What was it like becoming FOZ finalists?
It was a wonderful and powerful feeling that I achieved something that I really wanted to be part of. I got so much support from my family, friends and fans. It’s great that some people actually appreciate you and recognise your beauty. Another wonderful thing is that when I received an email about being Miss Feb, I was in Zimbabwe, I just started glowing and everywhere I went people would just look at me thinking, "What up with this chic!" What would you do if you were to win FOZ crown?
I will obviously jump and start screaming! Where my heart belongs the most or projects I would like to be part of can be anything that has to do with children and women. I would want to do fundraising and or approaching potential sponsors that can give some me assistance with funds to help the orphans, disabled, abandoned, deaf particularly children that are not even recognised in the community such as from children’s homes in the rural areas. I would like to work with women and have meetings or counsellors that they can meet to help them face their problems, issues or things that they want to do but they are not able to do it. There is so many women that live their lives full of anger, confusion, stress and grudges. These women are our mothers so by giving them the assistance they need would be a start or open door moment for greater things for their family and children. The last two things I would like to be part of is try help raise funding for hospitals especially in the rural areas and schools too without enough equipment, medicine and dedicated doctors. So many people die everyday because of this especially women. If 8 women die everyday, imagine how many wonderful women are lost every week, month or in a year and how many children are left behind orphaned. The statistics are too high! Lastly, education! u can never do anything or be somebody without education. Many families can’t afford to take their children to school which affects the future. Everywhere we go we just need it and i wish to help those children who are not able to go to school or have financial problems that they are not able to go to school You are quite passionate about your modelling career and have taken part in a number of them. tell us about your past competition? Besides being part of FOZ, I have taken part in a pageant called Miss Zim SA.I think that’s were my modelling career just started. it was all just for fun or a joke in my own point of view but I noticed that I have learnt so much and met a lot of people from that pageant that I never notice or strengths I never discovered within. Every journey starts with one step and that’s the step I took and open doors for me in so many things. I have also been in an online pageant called Miss Tropics where I battled it out with so many beautiful girls from all over Africa. I made it to the top 5. The judges’ comments were open and honest and I took every comment or weakness they noticed so it can change and improve. The most recent competition I had was organised by my agency (Just You Model and Management) where models, actors, dancers and singers were being scouted to travel to USA next year. so many talented artist were battling out and I have never seen such talented and dedicated people like that before. That’s when i just felt like im on top of the world and can make it everywhere and be what I want to be. Having that positive thinking, attitude and confidence, you can never go wrong in whatever competition. I kept sing in my head that " IM A STAR TONIGHT...UP IN THE SKY TONIGHT..SO GIVE ME ONE MORE DREAM CAUSE IM SHINING SHINING SHINING!" that’s the kind of words a passionate person should always say or sing to themselves. The event and night was a success. I was happy my agent was happy with the achievements so there is more to come from that. So watch this space. Your flat is burning down, what would you grab?
My handbag! It always has perfume, lip gloss, novel, bible, water, brush, notebook and a pen What music do you currently have on repeat?
Hillsong-God He reigns album, Beyonce 4 album, Adele-19 and 21 album, Zahara, Drake-take care album, Zakes Bantwini, Oliver Mtukudzi, Deitrick Haddon, Proffesor, Maxwell and Chrisette Michele-im a star Relationships, whats your ideal man?
Wow! l have to write a whole list for that one. But everyone have something in common when they look for a partner e.g. sweet, loving, honest, kind, caring, etc. but the most important thing about looking or finding an ideal man is that he must always have your best interest at heart first, God fearing and have something in common but if you don’t have anything in common then both of you have to be willing to adjust to each other’s cultures and background. What inspires you?
So many things and people inspire me everyday. I am inspired by millionaire or billionaire that are sometimes as young as 21 but they are entitled to so much money, projects and properties and still going on strong. I am inspired by positive people who I may meet or talk to that when they tell their story of how they started. I am also inspired by spiritual books and the bible. Many times I feel so low and get to a point that I can’t do it anymore and just want to give up but that will lift me up and get ready to face the world. Lastly, I’m inspired my music. I love to listen to music no matter what kind of music if it has a message behind it that maybe positive to my life, I take it in. You don’t have to be a gospel singer to inspire people but a pop artist can sing a song that connects to your life or situation that makes want to stand up and do something and not sit around and wait for the storm to end. So you think you are an example of beauty with brains?
Yes I do believe I am an example of beauty and brains. I don’t have a degree, masters or honour degree but my thinking capacity and the way I look at things have come to a point where I can take on anything. Im am not a failure and never give up on any task that I am given. I am a well educated person and have so many lesson learnt situations or moments that I can give out to the world or to Zimbabwe that will leave them thinking that this girl is so educated. I am the kind of person who is eager to learn, open to anything, who researches on so many things. So im an all rounder and don’t believe im a dumb model. Tell us about your future, if you had a crystal ball what would you like to see?
Successful and happy! I would like to be a successful model worldwide especially in USA and Europe. Be part of the biggest agencies in USA like trump model management, NY model management, Elite model management, Rage management, etc. all over magazines, billboards, fashion shows, etc. I love children and also believe in women empowerment so I see myself part of that as well. I also want to grow in the multimedia/graphic designing industry. I like to keep myself busy so when the modelling comes to an end I still want to be part of something and empower myself in my career. A successful model can’t be alone forever so I’d like to have a family of my own as well. Your vision can go as far as you can dream so DREAM BIG! How do you handle groupies?
I handle them very well. Although some think that im ignoring them when im busy. But I do try get time to talk to them, know about them and what they do. Most of them are great people and turn out to be great friends. So it just takes time to get to know them. As for stalkers, guys with no respect and ruse I waste no time on the "BLOCK THIS PERSON" button. Whats the nicest thing that a fan has ever said to you?
Most of them say nice things to me they all wonderful and a blessing. But what touched my heart were two girls. One is a model in Zimbabwe, very beautiful girl and she said "Soph I believe u’re my mentor and ask you for any advice and strongly believe we'll both be successful models one day." The other girl is 22 and has a 2yr old and in her heart she tells herself that since I got a baby, life is over for her. She sent me a long email but in short she said, "When i read your status and get an email from you I start believing in myself and know there's hope for me. I can turn to you all the time and you're there. Wish i could have a heart and beauty like yours I pray God will continue to empower you so you can raise up many women like me and models who want to be like you or want to make it in life. It’s like you're my guardian angel." A lot of my friends say that to me but when a stranger is able to see it and recognise your personality that quickly, it just feels great!! |
| Face to Face with Sibo Bero | 2011-11-16 | Sibo Bero who won Miss April in the ongoing Face of Zimbabwe competition. She is a medical Student in China. Zim Life & Style Magazine caught up with the bauty for an insight into her life. Name: Sibo Bero Date of Birth: 06 June 1990 Hometown: Harare Firstly, who is Sibo Bero? Not such a typical medical student. Im your everyday girly girl, i love clothes, shoes and a good chat with friends. Fun-loving and still spiritually grounded and I have a really big heart. I love life and people. I’m a believer, I believe in people and their dreams and my everyday concern is making other’s priorities just as important as mine where I can afford to do so. What was it like becoming one of the Face of Zimbabwe Finalists? All shades of emotions, from thrilling to downright humbling. Prior to that moment i had never seen myself as a pageant girl of any sort, so to be completely honest, the one feeling that really stood out was incredulity.... it was amazing. To add on to that, the month of April is really my favourite month though I’m a June baby. April means to 'open up"or to 'open up to the sun' like blooming flowers since April is part of the beautiful Spring. So yes do not mind being Miss April at all!!! You are currently a medical student based in china, how do you juggle a medical career and modelling at the same time? First of all its interesting to me that you used the word ‘juggle’ because it makes the situation sound potentially dangerous because we all know when we see a clown juggling balls, the most impressive thing is that he is not dropping any one of them. Well I really don’t see it as juggling because metaphorically speaking, holding one ball doesn’t mean another is in the air. I fully apply myself to my studies at the same time when I have to do some modelling jobs i just get on it. Nothing compromises the other because they are two completely different aspects of me that could never rightfully compete. This does not mean one is greater than the other but it simply means each has its own uses and demands that are unrelated. Therefore a balance maintains itself, but if a time came where i had to pick one over the other, even just for a couple of hours, i would then indulge in the aforementioned juggling because I would never give up neither. What would you do, if you were to win the Face of Zimbabwe crown? To be candid, I would jump around and scream and call my mom, still screaming then in three minutes it would sink in and then the answer to your question would follow.. Firstly i would assume the roles of Face of Zimbawe,by headlining their charitable campaigns in being the spokesperson and activist for finding sponsorship for the homeless children in Zimbabwe they pick out. I would be able to expand my horizon as an ambassador for the country, because in all frankness whether we like it or not wherever we are in the world, when we say we are Zimbabwean we become” a face” among others of the country to the people around us. So i intend to continue to hold the flag high. My roles as a Tourism ambassador would also be one of my esteemed duties. Your flat is burning down, what would you grab. My passport.... Im sure that would be priority because of my being in a foreign country. Everything else, i’d be too excited to go shopping for, AGAIN^^ What music do you currently have on repeat? A bit of Adele, some Frank Ocean and India Arie. Relationships, what your ideal man? A man who is God fearing. Who wants to understand my needs, wants and desires. Furthermore feels inclined to be a part of accomplishing them. What inspires you?People. All kinds of people from all kinds of background. I feel the one thing we were put here to do is to experience each other. So we learn all we do from others and teach a few. But our growth as individuals depends on encounters with others. So I’m inspired by people, our differences, variations and thought processes. It all inspires me to be so much more. So do you think you are an example of beauty with brains? To be called a beauty is a compliment and id thank whoever says so. As for having brains...Honestly thats a hard question for me, I feel that we are not what we think we are or have but instead are defined by our contributions to our surroundings and the people in them. So we only try our best, and that is all I do. Tell us about your future, if you had a crystal ball what would you like to see? Definitely less pain in the world, and me having been a part of bringing it about.. I really would want to pursue a career in Public Health as I have a strong desire to impact globally. Modelling is a tool i hope can use to strengthen my brand as “Sibo Bero the humanitarian pulse”. How do you handle groupies? Lol,what groupies???? Whats the nicest thing that a fan has ever said to you? Mostly I interact with people and regard them as friends, and the nicest thing I have ever heard is someone telling me that, at 26 they were quitting their job to pursue medicine after they had read my bio on Face of Zimbabwe. That definitely made me happy because I am a strong believer in dream realities. How on earth do you manage to stay that thin? Come on, im not that thinJ.lol. I actually don’t put in time to stay thin but i try to stay healthy. Eat well, sleep well and exercise. Being healthy is whats important and trust me if I was healthy and a larger size,I would not lift a finger to change it,. What was the last book you read? Marianne Williamson_A RETURN TO LOVE< this the ultimate read,i learnt a lot about love and being a miracle worker by affirming love to be my priority in every situation. Whats on your bucket list? I ‘m really not a believer in the whole “before i die,i...”because before I die is today and that is all we truly have, so before I die I would want to have been faithful with each day I was given and hope to have made a meaningful contribution to the world. It’s about getting the most out of each day and in the end the culmination of that would have been a testament of my life. Any words of advice to the young ladies who aspire to be models? Get educated, even if you just want to be a model. Firstly because modelling normally has a shelf life and if you want to be the difference find out what else interests you and fit that into your modelling career. Never sell yourself short. Lastly, having people regard you as beautiful is a good thing, it captures the attention but you are well responsible for what you do with it,use it well, for the greater good. In your opinion, is it really possible for someone to use modelling to make a difference? Yes it surely is, because models have the advantage of being in show business, so if they decide to do good for society they already have the publicity to run on. Therefore are able to influence a lot more people than would someone who isn’t in the spotlight. How are you making a difference to Zimbabwe or Zimbabweans where you are based? Well I have already done a fundraiser, a Cultural Fashion Show that helped raise a lot of funds for FOZ Charity Campaign. A lot of people signed up to donate a minimal amount every month for a year. This money is set to sponsor not only the two darlings i was assigned, Arnold William and Prudence Mugavazi, but to set up a FOZ relief Center in Zimbabwe. Besides the Charity work i think being a model citizen, who is patriotic and unashamed of where she comes from definitely is one of the ways I shine a light on Zimbabwe. Assuming you become Face of Zimbabwe 2012, what will be your top priority? I would to grow the profile of Face of Zimbabwe beauty pageant and show the public that it really is a platform for greatness if anyone truly embraced it with the opportunities it presents.I would very much like it, if I were to become a face that would not only be remembered for how it looked but because of the heart it represented. I would want to use the Face of Zimbabwe platform as my chance to be elaborate in finding new ways to be more compassionate, by being a gift to countless people. If I were to be Face of Zimbabwe, I would want to encourage young people, especially girls, to chase their dreams, get an education and be the best at whatever they love doing.

| New Zealand based student wins slot in Face of Zimbabwe | 2011-10-06 | Ashley Magumise, a 19 year old student based in Hamilton, New Zealand has won a fiercely contested round to become Miss September in the ongoing Face of Zimbabwe competition. The young beauty becomes one of the 12 finalists who will battle it out in December to earn the bragging rights to become the most beautiful face in Zimbabwe, based on public votes. There are few pageants that have established themselves as competitive, relevant, exciting and filled with captivating twists as this popular international pageant. Faced with fiercely competing beauty, the panel of judges failed to reach consensus on the winner from the three September finalists. Besides Ashley, the other finalists included UK based beauties Emily Marambakuyana and Tinashe Kamangira. The results were declared deadlocked and according to the competition rules, the judges lost their right to choose the winner and the contestant with the highest public votes becomes the winner. Ashley’s win after attaining the highest public support indicated the teenage beauty’s popular appeal. One of the judges, UK beauty model, Caroline Kumbukani said “Ashley showed a great personality, natural beauty and looked confident with herself which is what we look for”. Another judge, Ireland based radio presenter, Priscilla Nalana also commented on the teenager’s beauty and stunning natural look as the epitome of a real Zimbabwean woman. She is joined on the panel by the popular ‘One ariega’ acoustic/afro jazz/urban musician, Cee Jay Besa who is based in Texas, US. The singer who has also turned promoter was the organiser of dancehall king, Winky D’s tour of the USA .The third judge is Priscilla Nalana, a radio presenter for zimonline Radio, who commands a huge following for her Friday shows which has earned her the name ‘Miss Airwaves’. However, the judges lose their right to vote in the December finals where the ultimate winner is chosen entirely by public vote. Judging by the fierce campaigning by the monthly contestants on the group’s facebook page, there is every indication that the FoZ competition has recently increased in popularity.
